In Uganda, women own nearly 40% of businesses and make up approximately 80% of the informal sector, yet many remain excluded from formal markets, finance, and growth opportunities. How do we bridge this gap?
The Business Development Service Providers Network (BDSPN), in partnership with Steadman Global Consulting Limited, is addressing this challenge through the GET Ahead (Gender and Entrepreneurship Together) training—a key component of the 20-day Training of Trainers (ToT) programme.
Over an intensive 5-day training, 19 trainers were equipped with practical, gender-responsive tools to support entrepreneurs in the creative sector—spanning fashion, digital media, film, music, literature, and artisanship.
The training tackled real barriers limiting women’s enterprise growth, including access to finance, pricing confidence, market linkages, and the transition from informal to structured businesses.
Through a participatory and hands-on approach, participants strengthened their facilitation, coaching, and delivery skills—positioning them as key drivers of inclusive entrepreneurship.
As these trainers roll out the programme, they are set to impact over 1,500 women and youth, contributing to a more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable creative economy.
